Burgham, which celebrates its 15th anniversary in 2026, is situated in beautiful, rolling Northumbrian countryside. The event always attracts a huge and highly competitive entry of the sport’s most famous horses and athletes, as well as many grassroots riders keen to take the chance to compete alongside their heroes.
To add to the excitement, Burgham forms the final leg of the big-money Northumberland Challenge, which unites the three Northumbrian international events of Belsay, Alnwick Ford and Burgham and is sponsored by Matfen Hall, An Eventful Life and NIS Group Ltd. Any rider who can win the CCI4*-S, CCI3*-S or CCI2*-S classes at all three horse trials will leave Burgham with a bonus of £5,000 (CCI4*-S and CCI3*-S) or £4,000 (CCI2*-S).
This year Burgham’s cross-country courses will have a new layout and a fresh feel, with Dutch Olympian Andrew Heffernan appointed as cross-country course-designer of the feature CCI4*-S class. Andrew will work alongside David Evans, whose bold, educational tracks have played a large part in making Burgham such an exceptionally popular event with riders and owners. David will continue to design Burgham’s CCI3*-S, CCI2*-S-level and national intermediate, novice, BE100 and BE90 courses.
Supporting the international and national eventing classes are Dubarry Burghley Young Event Horse qualifiers for four- and five-year-old horses, a Thoroughbred and Ex-Racehorse show and unaffiliated showjumping.
Burgham’s fantastic fun dog show is returning, and there is plenty to appeal to families looking for a great day out in the countryside. The event boasts an excellent array of tradestands and locally-produced food and drink and is the perfect way to watch top-class eventing in an intimate, serene setting at affordable prices.
Burgham’s Event Director Craig Anderson said: “Burgham’s hallmark is that it gives spectators the opportunity to watch top-class equestrian sport in a uniquely friendly, relaxed setting, and we are really excited to show everyone the changes to the cross-country course and layout this year. It is an apt way to celebrate our 15th anniversary.
“We are also delighted that the Etal and Alnwick branches of the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) will be our supported charities this year - there is no worthier cause for any event to work with and we look forward to their presence on site.”
