Piggy March has had a very ‘good’ start to the season with the Susie Woods owned Cooley Goodwood taking his second win in a row, this time at Agria Oasby (1) Horse Trials on Friday.
Piggy and Cooley Goodwood opened the year with a win at Poplar Park and have followed that up by topping the Friday Open Intermediate leaderboard at Oasby (1) with a score of 29.4, adding just 0.8 time on the Stuart Buntine designed cross country to their dressage score. It was an emphatic win, finishing nearly 10 penalties ahead of second placed Emilie Chandler riding IfNotWhyNot (38.6) and one of Thursday’s Open Intermediate winners, Heidi Coy in third (40), this time riding Halenza.
Local rider Alex Postolowsky claimed the Intermediate class riding Iden Van De Rosweide while another local rider, and Olympic gold medallist amongst other things, Ros Canter claimed the two Novice classes. Riding the seven-year-old Graffito, by Grafenstolz, the same sire as her Paris 2024 horse Lordships Graffalo, Ros won the Novice Section O while the eight-year-old Broadstone Iron Man took the Novice Section N.
Lizzie Baugh and Chac started last year with a win in the Novice at Oasby (1) and they did again on Friday, just moving it up a small notch to win the Open Novice on Friday. Heidi Coy added another third place in this class riding Zirocco Van De Eijkhof Z and Willa Newton riding Morgund slipped between them in second place.
Antipodean riders lined up to take the top spots in the BE100 Open with New Zealand’s Jesse Campbell winning on board Fascinating Lily (27.5) but Australia’s Sammi Birch was in hot pursuit with her three horses, Parkfield Pumpkin, Rosa’s Party and Lazio PFB chasing hard for second, third and fourth spots respectively.
As with Thursday’s BE100 winners, all three finished on their dressage score:
BE100 Section I: Emily Philp riding Ogino (28)
BE100 Section J: Storm Straker riding Abydos (25.5)
BE100 Section K: Margo Sly riding Gorsehill Alamo (25)
