Four days of competition across the levels are coming up this week at Oasby (1) Horse Trials, the first event of the season for many.
Held at Foxdale, Oasby in Lincolnshire from Thursday 7th – Sunday 10th March, the centrally located venue attracts riders from around the country with the Intermediate classes on Thursday and Friday enabling the higher-level riders to enter horses here and also compete in the OI at Tweseldown on the Saturday.
This is what New Zealand couple Tim and Jonelle Price have opted to do with several rides at Open Intermediate and Intermediate levels at Oasby during the week, travelling up from their Dorset base at Chedington.
Tim and Jonelle have spent the last few weeks showjumping on the Sunshine Tour in Andalusia, as have New Zealand’s Clarke Johnstone and Samantha Lissington, who are also bringing horses to Oasby for their first run around cross country since last year.
Ros Canter’s 2023 Badminton winner Lordships Graffalo will also be having his first run since becoming the European Champion at Haras Le Pin, France in August and Ros is bringing her CCI5* Pau winner, Izilot DHI, while another of her previous 5* horses, Pencos Crown Jewel, will be having a first run with new owner, young Millie Juleff.
Ros and Lordships Graffalo aren’t the only Champions in the Open Intermediate field with World Champions Yasmin Ingham and Banzai Du Loir competing and Yasmin also having a run on Rehy DJ.
World Number One Oliver Townend doesn’t have an entry in the year OI this year but has four young ones in the BE100 and Novice class and another one to watch in the Intermediate will be Izzy Taylor riding Barrington Alice, winner of the 6 Year Old World Young Horse Championship at Le Lion late last year.
