It seems strange to publish an event preview so early in the week, but Oasby (1) Horse Trials now has a regular mid-week berth that lands on Wednesday 11th and Thursday 12th March in 2026.

The timing and classes are geared towards the professional riders getting their horses out and the good news is that ground conditions are ‘currently exceptional considering the never-ending rain’.

The Oasby courses will follow similar routes and themes from previous years and will offer a fair start to the season, across all classes (Open Intermediate, Intermediate, Open Novice, Novice, BE100 and BE100 Open on both days with the addition of an Open Intermediate U21 on Thursday 12th).

Last year’s Open Intermediate winner, Emily King riding Valmy Biats is back to defend her title and New Zealand’s Tim Price will be busy with three in the OI – Vitali, The Highlander and Gloire De Marchenval – while Clarke Johnstone has Sparky Lad and Menlo Park in the OI and Indigo Blue and Lt Holst Mackintosh in the Novice sections, which are packed with young equine talent.

Britain’s David Doel is another with multiple entries in the OI, although he has already had some competition under his belt having started his season at Mata Do Duque in Portugal.

And, most importantly, lorry drivers are reminded to collect their FREE COFFEE token on the way into site, as BEDE celebrates the unsung heroes of eventing!
