The three Olympic equestrian disciplines of dressage, showjumping and eventing have been included as Confirmed Sports for the Pan American Games 2027.
The PanAm Games will return to Peru for the third time in 12 years; Lima hosted the 18th edition of the Games in 2019, in 2023 the Games were held in Santiago and will be held once again in Lima from 16th July – 1st August 2027.
36 disciplines have been approved by the PanAm Sports Executive Committee with the surprise inclusion of cricket while basketball has been left off the programme for the first time since the inaugural edition in Buenos Aires 1951.
Equestrian sports have also been included since Buenos Aires 1951 with, most recently, the USA winning team gold and securing a berth for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in 2019 while Canada won team gold at Santiago 2023, also securing an Olympic spot for Paris 2024.
The Olympic-style competition for athletes from all nations of the Americas, conducted every four years, always takes place one year before the Olympic Games and will be considered an important precursor to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games
