LA28 Equestrian dates and sessions revealed

LA28 Games Competition Plan including equestrian dates unveiled | An Eventful Life

 

With three years to go until Los Angeles welcomes the world for the 2028 Olympic Games, the Games Plan Competition Schedule has been announced.

Friday, 14 July 2028 will be a day to remember for fans, athletes and performers alike, as the Olympic Games LA28 spring to life with the Opening Ceremony split between two iconic venues - the ​​LA Memorial Coliseum and 2028 Stadium in Inglewood.

Beginning at 17:00 local time, the ceremony will be timed to take full advantage of the afternoon sun, so-called “golden hour” lighting and what will hopefully be a spectacular sunset over the City of Angels.

The timing of the Opening Ceremony was revealed as part of the first version of the detailed competition calendar was released by LA28 on Monday, 14 July 2025, which coincided with the three years to go milestone for the Olympic Games LA28.

LA28 Equestrian competition starts Saturday July 15th

The full competition schedule starts on Saturday July 15th 2028 with the first of the three equestrian disciplines also starting at Santa Anita Park. There are 12 days of equestrian competition scheduled; 

Saturday July 15th – Tuesday July 18th (medal day Tuesday), 

July 20th & 21st, July 23rd – 26th (medal days 23rd, 24th & 26th) and 

July 28th & 29th (medal day 29th). 

The sessions are not listed by discipline, but we are thinking at this stage that the Eventing may be the first to take place from Saturday July 15th – Tuesday July 18th. The final format is also yet to be ratified but looks as if the final two days could be the showjumping sessions for Team and Individual.  

The timings for these sessions are;

Saturday 15th July from 9:00 – 11:30 and 16:30 – 19:00.

Sunday 16th from 9:00 – 11:00

Monday 17th July: 8:00 – 11:00

Tuesday 18th July: 16:30 – 22:00 

After 19 days of unforgettable action, the Olympic Games LA28 will come to its conclusion during the Closing Ceremony at 18:00 local time on Sunday, 30 July.
