Oliver Townend and Cooley Master Class competing at Maryland 2021

The current World Number One, Oliver Townend, will return to Maryland CCI5*in October

Oliver Townend, who competed in last year’s inaugural Maryland 5 Star, placing second to the USA’s Boyd Martin, will this year be riding As Is, who finished second in the CCI4*-S at the Land Rover Blair Castle International in August

“I’m excited to be returning to the U.S. for the Mars Maryland 5 Star” says Oliver “I thoroughly enjoyed the event last year and maybe I can move up a notch this time!”

The MARS Maryland 5 Star at Fair Hill presented by Brown Advisory returns to the Fair Hill Special Event Zone in Cecil County, MD, USA from October 13th – 16th where Oliver will be joined by fellow Brits Harry Meade riding Superstition and US-based Leslie Law riding Voltaire De Tre

In addition to the CCI5*-L, the event also features a 3 Star competition (CCI3*-L), which serves as the USEF CCI3*-L Eventing National Championship, and The Dutta Corp. USEA Young Event Horse East Coast Championships presented by Dubarry of Ireland. The four days of eventing competition feature Dressage (Thu-Fri), Cross-Country (Sat) showcasing Ian Stark-designed courses, and Show Jumping (Sun).

Currently there are only 25 entries in the CCI5* but one of these is from New Zealand’s Hayley Frielick riding Dunedin Black Watch. Hayley has been based in Australia and has competed in the CCI5* at the Australian International Three Day Event on board Class Action LP but this will be Dunedin Black Watch’s first CCI5* start

Definite entries close on September 30th and can be viewed on the Event website
