Bill Levett withdraws from Australian eventing team for Rio

It seems that Australia is always plagued by last minute substitutions at Olympic Games – let’s hope this is the last one for 2016 as Bill Levett sadly has to withdraw Alexander NJ as the travelling reserve and Sammi Birch takes his place

Equestrian Australia has advised that

“Bill Levett has withdrawn as Australia’s travelling reserve for Eventing after his horse Alexander NJ sustained a minor injury.

While Levett’s horse will make a full recovery, he won’t overcome the injury in time for the horses’ departure for Rio on Friday.

Equestrian Australia (EA) is currently making arrangements for Samantha Birch and Hunter Valley II to fill the travelling reserve position. Australia is permitted one travelling reserve for Eventing.

Levett is understandably disappointed but will support the Aussies from his England home and says the team is a strong medal chance.

“I’m disappointed not be travelling with the team as their reserve but I feel Sammi and her horse Hunter Valley II will be able to deliver a seriously good performance if called upon,” said Levett.

“I wish the team all the best and look forward to seeing them on the podium in Rio.”

Australia’s Eventing horses will depart England for Rio on 29 July
