Track to the Top 10 - Tryon WEG 2018

Andrew Hoy, one of the oldest riders on one of the youngest horses, added some impressive stats to his CV

Thanks to Chris Kirby, here is a fascinating breakdown of the Track to the Top Ten for the 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games at Tryon, North Carolina

Check out how each rider fared in each phase - who made the big jumps (metaphorically as well as literally) up the leader board and when they happened plus compare the numbers to the stats for Burghley

  • 60% of riders in the final top 10 were in the top 10 after dressage – but only just for three of them. Padraig McCarthy, Tim Price and Astier Nicolas were equal ninth after dressage
  •  Three countries had multiple riders in the final top 10 – Britain (three), Ireland (two) and France (two)
  • Australia’s Andrew Hoy made the biggest jump up the leader board from 29th after dressage into fourth place overall
  • Andrew was also one of only three to finish on their dressage score (Ros Canter and Padraig McCarthy also finished on their dressage score)
  • Only four riders jumped a clear round in the final phase (Ros Canter, Padraig McCarthy, Andrew Hoy and Tina Cook)
  • Eight of the top 10 riders jumped double clear around the cross country
