Oasby Horse Trials in Lincolnshire, England is an eventing competition venue that hosts the traditional start and finish of the British Eventing season for many riders across the levels.
Held at Foxdale near Grantham by the kind permission of Mr & Mrs Nigel Wild, the venue usually hosts two competitions each year with Oasby (1) kicking off the season in early March and Oasby (2) rounding the season off in October but in 2025 Oasby will host three events in March, April and October.
Oasby - popular eventing venue
One of the reasons for its popularity as a venue is the free-draining ground, which usually stands up well during the potentially wet early and late months of the British eventing season and for that reason is rarely cancelled. Run across one valley, the terrain is relatively flat and the experienced cross country course designer, Stuart Buntine of BEDE Events, makes sure that the courses are suitable for horses and riders having their first run of the season at Oasby (1).
The course at Oasby (3) is designed for an end of season run, where some competitors may be preparing for a move up the following year on lower-level horses while other, more internationally focussed, combinations can use it as a gentle run before a late season 5*, depending on how the dates fall.
The Oasby events are run as British Eventing Affiliated competitions that host official national level classes from BE90 to Open Intermediate levels. The events are usually well attended by the top British and international riders; Paris 2024 gold medallist Ros Canter is a notable regular starter at Oasby with her team of horses competing across the classes.
Young up and coming stars of the sport are also well catered for at Oasby events with Under 21 and Under 18 sections and a Pony Trial for the smaller equine competitors. Spectators are welcome and there is no entry fee charged, making it a perfect spot to watch some of the top stars of the sport in a relaxed atmosphere as they start or end their season at Oasby events.
BEDE Events run multiple events throughout the year at various venues, including Oasby Horse Trials, with the BEDE Eventing Leagues linking them in a points-based competition run throughout the season. Two leagues will be run in 2025 – the Agria 100 League and Eco Voltz League plus recognition for Highest Placed Amateurs, Highest Placed RoR and Highest Placed EHOA Members.
Oasby is also the venue for the Blankney Hunt Pony Club One Day Event, held on Sunday 13th April 2025.

Agria Oasby (1) Horse Trials usually offers four days of competition but, new for 2025, this has been split into two, with two days at Oasby (1) and two days at Oasby (2). The focus is on the higher-level competition at Oasby (1), with professional riders more likely to attend early in the season, while Oasby (2) will focus more on the lower levels from BE90 to Novice.
