Jess Somerfield and her 14-year-old gelding Finch Farm Carpentaria made the journey from NSW to Queensland well worthwhile, taking the Saddlefitter CCI4*-S title at the 2026 Tweed Equestrian Queensland 3 Day Event in Tamborine (31st July – 2nd August).
Moving into the lead on cross country day, Jess and ‘Finchy’ sealed the deal with a clear showjumping round on the final day, adding just 1.6 time penalties to finish more than 20 penalties ahead of second placed Matt Gaske on Leads The Way.
The eagle-eyed among you may notice that Jess had to cope with a slight tack malfunction over the last two fences on cross country when the hackamore section of her bridle broke but her ‘very good boy’ Finchy kept jumping to the last! What a star and ‘luckily, I had two sets of reins’ says Jess.
