Wendy Schaeffer-Macdonald on home soil in Adelaide

Wendy presents the Sunburst Trophy, named after he Olympic medal winning horse, to Clarke Johnstone

In recent times the Australian International 3 Day Event has not been lucky for Wendy Schaeffer-Macdonald.

The Olympic gold medallist, who hails from Hahndorf in the hills around Adelaide, won the CCI4*here in 2002 and 2010 and, even though she now lives in the UK, she makes a big effort to try and return to Adelaide each year to compete

In recent years she has been foiled various impediments, including a broken leg, and this year an injury to her horse Sun Showers prevented her from competing although the preparations during the past 12 weeks have been going well

Wendy now has one more competition in Australia at Wallaby Hill on her 1* horse Canterbury Sun Rose before she returns to the UK and her patient husband Nigel
