It is a busy few weeks on our eventing road trip in Australia as we hot foot it from the Sydney International Three Day Event in NSW to cross the State border into Queensland (just 10 hours drive) for the Motorama Toyota Tamborine One Day Event held at the Tamborine Equestrian Group home base at Kelecyn.
Kelecyn is the family property of Australian rider Kevin McNab, who has been based in the UK for several years now, and the event is run by a committee which includes Kevin’s brother Dale and his wife Charlotte Price, who is the Event Director. The venue is in the beautifully lush setting of the Tamborine Mountains, just 40 minutes from the famous Gold Coast and tourist coastal resort of Surfer’s Paradise.
The lush setting of the cooler hills behind the hills has been topped up recently by plenty of rain and storms but thankfully the weather forecast for this weekend is perfect eventing weather – low 20’s and slightly cloudy - so we’re keeping our fingers crossed that we’ve left the rainy weather that plagued Sydney behind.
Just six competitors will contest the Motorama Group CCI4*-S and we believe that none of them have won an international 4* before - someone is going to be very happy!
Andrew Cooper was busy at Sydney last weekend with multiple rides in the placings so he doesn’t have a 4* ride here but will be riding Pepper Jack in the West Vets Animal Hospital CCI3*-S, which has eight entries, and he has two in the All Horses Veterinary Service CCI2*-S, a class which sees 12 starters
Dressage and show jumping for all international classes is on Saturday with the riders taking to the cross country course, designed by Ewan Kellett, on Sunday
The event is also hosting national classes at 65cm to 90cm heights and a CCN1*
