You know that feeling when your horse overjumps the first part of a combination and cross country and, the good eventing rider you are, you quickly make a ‘on the hoof’ decision, opt for Plan B and take the option?
Well, that’s what An Eventful Life is doing at Denman Horse Trials this weekend!
We were so looking forward to being on the ground at real events in both hemispheres this weekend, filming on cross country at Denman Horse Trials, NSW in Australia and at Aske Horse Trials in North Yorkshire, UK (plus keeping you updated from Barbury, UK of course!) and then Covid-19 threw another yet another curly in the way …
Paul and I were going to drive up to the Hunter Valley in NSW for our first visit to Denman Horse Trials this weekend from Melbourne. Yep, Melbourne – the city suddenly back in lockdown! But before the latest lockdown came the closure of the border between Victoria and NSW, scheduled to take place at midnight on Tuesday 7th July and we were meant to be leaving on Thursday 9th ….. Bugger.
But, again like good eventing riders, we’re not easily deterred. And here comes Plan B
Luckily, we have the Gillis family in NSW, whose son Thomas has worked with Paul, filming at many events in Australia. Bizarrely, Thomas is possession of a pilot’s licence but he doesn’t have a drivers licence so his mum (and eventing guru, author of the book An Eventful Life) Alison Duthie, is nominated driver and film co-pilot for the weekend
A socially distanced hand over of equipment at the border and the NSW team are now ready to roll at Denman!
Just before the border closed on Tuesday we did a mad dash up to the NSW/Victoria border to deliver the filming equipment and now the team in NSW can carry on!
So we’re delighted to confirm that we WILL be filming at Denman Horse Trials this weekend and providing full coverage on the website so stay tuned for some great stuff coming up.
