CCI 2 Star cross country at Puhinui

     Lucy Turner and Carbon

Lucy Turner and Carbon moved into the lead of the CCI2* Young Rider at Puhinui after a wet but successful ride on cross country yesterday. While the overnight leader Sarah Young and Leo Degas had a refusal on course, picking up 20 penalties, the top three riders all jumped double clear

This left Lucy on her dressage score of 52.2, giving her a 10.1 penalty lead over second placed Maria van Kuijk. Lucy, who competes in pony Grand Prix show jumping, is no stranger to the coloured poles, but 'that is on a different horse!'

However she is reasonably confident about heading into the final phase today

In the CCI2* Ashleigh McKinstry and Abby Lawrence are tied for first place on a score of 47.9. Ashleigh is riding her home bred Pioneer Brass Monkey, so named for his ability in the past to be a 'bit of monkey', who gave Ashleigh a lovely ride around Tich Massey's 2* course which caused few problems apart from the retirement of the overnight leader Megan Finlayson on Greensleeves
