The Melbourne Cup at Sydney International Three Day Event

It isn’t everyday that you get to hold the Lexus Melbourne Cup so, when it came to the Sydney International Three Day Event, of course we had to find out more about this iconic (and valuable!) part of Australian history

But what was the famous gold Cup doing at this event?

The wonderful thoroughbred horses, who are bred for racing but are also ideal equine athletes for the sport of eventing, were celebrated at the event with two special prizes provided by the Victorian Racing Club (VRC) and, as it turned out two thoroughbred horses won not only the VRC prize but also the CCI4*-L and CCI3*-L classes overall.

The two winners, Niki Rose’s Dreamcatcher in the CCI3*-L and Sam Woods’ Cage Fighter in the CCI4*-L, took home a $1000 cash prize, a Kennedy Oaks Day 2021 hospitality package and presentation rug, presented by Australian Olympian and VRC Ambassador Amanda Ross.

On Sunday the VRC film team caught up with some of Australia’s top riders including Australian Sydney Olympic gold medallist Stuart Tinney, Beijing Olympic silver medallist Shane and Athens Olympian, Rebel Morrow, to find out more about the special thoroughbreds they rode at those Olympic Games

The 2021 Lexus Melbourne Cup was also brought from its home in Flemington, Melbourne and was a popular attraction for attendees and competitors on Sunday who were keen to have their photo taken with the famous Gold Cup.
