Gemma Tinney on taking over Jaymee's blog and horse

Gemma Tinney has taken over sister Jaymee’s blog (and her horse) to tell us about her trip to the Pony Club NSW State One Day Event Championships in Albury

When I was selected to ride for ZONE 26 at the Pony Club NSW State ODE I had no idea that it was going to be 7 hours away and that it would take 4 days off my very busy schedule (not!). Pity it was in school hols!! (Plenty of time to steal Jaymee’s blog and now her horse!)

Mum and I packed up and left last Thursday with my new ride KING... so cool that Jaymee is doing her HSC and get to have the fun on him...he is an awesome horse.

I find that eventing is always busy. Plaiting, washing, walking your horse out, stables, gear cleaning.......... Mum does not help me (whats that about??) All my other friends’ mums do heaps of things!!

The first day was dressage and cross country in the afternoon.. King has developed a head shake from the high pollens (mum said) so we have been putting a stocking over his nose; looks weird but he is more relaxed and does not flick. We took it off just before the dressage and he went well but I was a little lazy about my markers and lost some points.

Oh and the RAIN .. it started Saturday morning and did not stop, everything just gets so wet and horrible. So we were tacked up for cross country, waiting in the rain then thunder and lightning started and it got called off! I was so miffed that I was all set, wet and ready to go.

What happened then is that they call it a combined training and I would showjump on the Sunday along with all the others that did not get to run cross country. So only about 30 got to actually go on the cross country course.. .. all I could think was it was a long way to go for dressage and showjumping!

On Sunday I jumped and I did a really good round (mum’s comment) I got 6th... a brown ribbon, (someone needs to change the colour!) We had travelled with a friend from school and decided to leave Sunday at 3.30pm... I wanted to stay for another night but mum said we had to leave as I had school the next day. The fun started when we blew a tyre on the float on the busy highway; Macy (my friend) and I were quite excited but mum and Darlis did not see it the same way? After an hour trying to get the NRMA out a guy stopped and changed it for us, a really nice man and his family. I really love eventing but when it is just dressage and showjumping it wasn’t the same. Happy that I’m getting to go to Goulburn with Dad this weekend!!
