No riding for 12 weeks

I wont be doing this for a little while

With the new year now officially started we have the horses back into work with plans laid out and events planned and being entered. There is just one issue … ME!

I’ve been having lower back issues for a good eight months now and different to the ‘normal’ ones I’ve been having all my life. But as any busy person knows you just cope as best as you can and decide it's just your body starting to wear out after years and years of riding ... and the occasional fall thrown in there for good measure. However the fact I couldn't bend down to pick up my socks (or poo off the arena) without supporting my body with a hand to the thigh, or lean forward to brush my teeth without putting my elbows on the sink and then the fact I had numb legs while jumping a few times … I decided to go get myself checked out.

So off I went to SASI (South Australian Sports Institute), where I have a scholarship. I went to see the Doc's and they decided that yes I had a very ceased back and should get a MIR. The result of that was a stress fracture to my L5/S1 - oops no wonder I was hurting and my back was stiff - sorry body.

Not long till our wedding ...

12 weeks off from riding and some swimming rehab and I should be right as rain. I just need to really look after it, with a wedding (YAY YAY YAY) coming up and then a honeymoon I will be forced to rest. The horses will become very good at in hand work and so will I.

However I will be changing things a little selling more of my baby horses as my back is telling me I need to cut back a little. So the fact that I’ll have a nice team of 5/6 horses and not the 10/12 I've had in the past is now staring me in the face. Sad yes but I don't feel like being a cripple by the time I'm 45! So keep a look out for some of my horses for sale.

I have a very busy schedule of Clinics coming up next week and with this heat wave I think a 6am clinic starts sound great with an afternoon in the shade will work very well. I also have Bettina Hoy over in a couple of weeks but sadly I can't do the clinic now - I'm fairly disappointed about that to say the least, but I’ll just have to watch and learn for four days instead. Look out for my report in the Horse Magazine.

By for now and Happy New Year

Megan

An Eventful Life will be covering one of the Bettina clinics as our own Debbie Higgs will be riding!
