Peter Nixon - Ace Photographer

Peter Nixon briefs the photographers on Burghley cross country morning "Stay safe out there people!"

Over the next few days the weather is going to be challenging for many at the FEI World Equestrian Games in Tryon. Of course, it’s going to be tough for the horses and riders but have you ever thought about what it takes to bring you those amazing photographs of the competitors from major international events around the world?

Peter Nixon is one of the elite equestrian photographers who shoot at major events around the world, creating images that capture the essence of the moment. Despite his youthful appearance, he assures us that he has been photographing horses for over 25 years and has been involved at Burghley Horse Trials for almost as long

As well photographing for many major publications, Peter manages the photographers at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials. He provides assistance both to the event and to the photographers, some who are well versed in the demands and protocol of such a big event and some who may there for the daunting first time. His traditional briefings on cross country morning always remind me of an army man sending his troops out to battle with the mantra being “It's a privilege to photograph here people but most of all, come home safely”

As the press office was starting to be dismantled at the end of another long Burghley week, I sat down with Peter to find out what his role was all about
