Sarah Nevile-Lavingdale

Sarah is not only the ‘voice of eventing’ at many of Australia’s top events but also an eventer herself. We find out more about the knowledgeable blonde behind the commentary microphone

Several years ago, thanks to an unsound horse, Sarah Nevile-Lavingdale found herself with a microphone in her hand interviewing riders at the end of their cross country ride at Melbourne 3 Day Event. Since then she has provided commentary at this event and many others throughout Australia, including our only CCI4* event, the Australian International 3 Day Event in Adelaide.

Back again in the commentary box this year at the newly named Melbourne International Horse Trials, Sarah found herself being able to actually watch some of the cross country thanks to the new layout.

“People don’t believe this but I’ve never actually seen a horse on cross country day at Melbourne before” she admits, despite the fact that she and her team of commentators, this year Sue Tufnell and Milton Collins, keep the spectators informed and entertained during the various classes on cross country day

Thanks to Sarah’s research this year we found out more about the names of Stuart Tinney’s Annapurna and Lauren Balcomb’s Guido Hatzis but Sarah is not just a good researcher – she still events herself and has qualified for World Championships in her past eventing career

We talked to her at Melbourne International Horse Trials and found out more about Sarah and how the commentary team work at major events
