Sarah Ray - an eventer with a career

Sarah and the 'grumpy but I love him' Irish Mist

24 year old Sarah Ray is an eventing rider who takes competition seriously and has managed to bring on both of her two horses, Irish Mist and King Vassie, through the grades to 2* level. Although their performances in the CCI2* at Melbourne International 3 Day Event were not quite what Sarah was hoping for both horses have consistently been placing at top events in 2013 and 2014

Sarah is aiming to compete them at 3* in the near future, and maybe 4* if all goes well; despite having high aims for her horses however, she has opted to have a career rather than be a professional rider. Having studied at La Trobe University she now is almost as passionate about her work in neurological physiotherapy as her riding but admits that she has also opted to build a career outside of riding so that “at the end of the day I can have a house, a nice car and some savings in the bank”

We recently talked to her about her two horses and how she combines her career with eventing
