Millstreet International Horse Trials has confirmed that it has submitted a formal bid to the FEI to host the inaugural FEI World Eventing Championships for Under 25 riders in 2026.

The new concept of the FEI Eventing World Championship U25, to be held each year at CCI4*-S level, was approved by the FEI Board in June with the aim of bridging the gap between the Young Rider and Senior levels. In mid-July the FEI opened bids for the new Championship in 2026 and 2027, which closed on 28th August.

Millstreet has a track record of hosting international equestrian competitions, including multiple European Youth Championships, Olympic Qualifiers and Nations Cups. Its cross country course on the grounds of Drishane Castle was originally designed by Mike Etherington-Smith ahead of the hosting of the 2014 FEI European Championships for Ponies and today the venue hosts eventing competitions from Novice level to CCI4*L.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to submit a bid for this championship. Hosting the inaugural U25 World Championships would be a tremendous honour and we hope the FEI will find us to be suitable hosts” says Thomas Duggan of Millstreet.

The outcome of bids and definite dates for the 2026 Eventing World Championship U25 is expected at the FEI General Assembly in November 2025.
