Aussies rule at Camphire, Ireland

Chris Burton and Nobilis 18 at Chatsworth

Australians took out three of the classes at Camphire International Horse Trials in southern Ireland where Chris Burton won not only the CIC 3* riding Nobilis 18 but also the CCI2* on Santano II while Emma Dougall riding Fernhill Tabasco won the CCI1*. Emma’s partner Kevin McNab placed second in the CCI1* riding Tomgar Hugo Boss, making it a good weekend for the Australians

On Thursday Chris set a new world dressage score for CCI2* level on Santano II and the pair added nothing to that score to win the class. To top it off he also rode the Irish bred Cooley Lands for a second place on the podium where he was joined by another Antipodean, New Zealand’s Jesse Campbell, third with Cleveland on 41.6.

Ireland’s 18 year old Cathal Daniels, who has been selected for Irish Young Rider Eventing Squad to compete the 2015 European Championships in Strzegom, Poland next month, finished second behind Chris in the CCI3* riding Rioghan Rua and third place also went to Ireland with Austin O’Connor and Kilpatrick Knight in third. Cathal also added to his CCI3* placing with a win in the Young Rider CIC2* riding Barnaboy Freeman

Britain’s Flora Harris who recently won at Bramham and has been named as part of the British squad for the FEI European Championships at Blair Castle, won the CIC1* on Cesano H finishing on their dressage score of on 40.9.
