Blyth Tait course designer

Blyth Tait, twice World Champion and now course designer, riding Bear Necessity at Blenheim

New Zealand Olympic gold medallist Blyth Tait will be turning his hand to cross country design for the first time in 2016 at Burgham Horse Trials near Newcastle. Blyth won the Howard Russell CIC 2* class in 2014 on Bear Necessity at this event, the only one in the north east of England to host international level competition.

Event Director Martyn Johnson commented; “I am delighted to welcome Blyth Tait to the cross country design team for next season. He joins current designer David Evans to assist him design the BE 90 & BE 100 cross country tracks. We are all excited to hear Blyth’s ideas and to work with him over the coming months.

“We have some exciting developments for 2016 in the pipeline and hope to welcome even more International entries to Northumberland next year!”

The current cross country designer David Evans added “I think it is a great thing when young and upcoming new designers come through from riding at the very top level. They bring an exciting new dimension and perspective to design. I very much look forward to working alongside Blyth.”

(We’re sure that Blyth would love being described as ‘young’!)

The Owen Pugh Burgham International Horse Trials run from Friday 25th – Sunday 27th March and Thursday 28th – Sunday 31st July. Both events host National classes from BE 90 through to Open Intermediate alongside the CIC 2* and CIC 3* classes
