Weekend eventing wrap from around the world

Another win for Matt Gaske and Bellhaven Cumbria at Tamborine, Australia

The British Eventing season has ended but there is still plenty of action happening in other places around the world

Here’s a quick wrap-up of some of the winners from the big events where plenty of familiar names were in action

Australia

After a few false starts and postponements this year, the Motorama TEG CCN ODE & 2020 Queensland State Eventing Championships (QLD) and Quirindi 3 Day Event (NSW) went ahead but not without some additional drama thrown in by the weather gods

Both events were hit by major storm activity but managed to carry on with Matt Gaske scoring yet another win on the talented mare Bellhaven Cumbria in the top class of the Queensland State Eventing Championships, the CNC3.5*

Shane Rose and Easy Turn won both the CCN4*-S and CCN3*-S classes at Quirindi but Matilda Seppelt prevented a Shane whitewash by taking the CCN2*-S, leaving Shane into second, third and fifth places. Sarah Clark won the CCI2*-L on Greyland while the only competitor in the CCI3*-L, Gemma Tinney on two horses, withdrew after dressage

Our full report to come from both events

Maddy Crowe and Waitangi Pinterest were 4th in the CCI4*-S at 2020 Horse of the Year in March and have now taken CCI4*-S at Taupo

New Zealand

Across the Tasman, Maddy Crowe riding Waitangi Pinterest took the CCI4*-S at Taupo in New Zealand beating her coach Clarke Johnstone on board his Olympic mount, Balmoral Sensation. Clarke also took third place on Aces High

The recently appointed NZES High Performance General Manager Jock Paget may not have high level competition as his focus now but he showed he is still no slouch in the saddle, taking the CCI3*-S on board Bing Bong while Heelan Tomkins riding Oaks Onyx won the CCI2*-S

USA

The West Coast's sole CCI4*-L took place at the Galway Downs International Event in Temecula, California with Boyd Martin riding the 9-year-old Holsteiner gelding Luke 140 winning the CCI4*-L and taking third place on Long Island T. Tamie Smith riding Passepartout took second place

Over 600 horses competed at the Virginia International & Horse Trials where Australia’s Ema Klugman took her first ever FEI win riding Bronte Beach in the CCI3*L. The USA’s Caroline Martin took four wins at the event; three in the USEA Young Event Horse East Coast Championships and the USEF CCI2*-L Eventing National Championship
