Sam Griffiths - Event Ambassador for Aus3DE

The Mitsubishi Motors Australian International 3-Day Event has a long history of partnering with international eventing figures to bring more of the equestrian sport to the Adelaide crowds. For 2017, the event is pleased to announce that UK-based Australian eventer and Olympic Bronze medallist, Sam Griffiths, will be heading to the Adelaide event as Event Ambassador.

Sam was one of the Australian team members of the Bronze medal winning Olympic Eventing Team and finished fourth individually at the 2016 Rio Olympics. He has competed at 3-day events throughout the world with much success, and in 2014 on his Irish Sport Horse mare, Paulank Brockagh, won the UK’s CCI4* Badminton Horse Trials, and placed third at the Burghley Horse Trials on his horse, Happy Times. Sam has represented Australia on many occasions, including the World Equestrian Games and the 2012 London Olympics. Sam is now based in the UK and is currently ranked 33rd in the world.

Event Director, Gillian Rolton, said that Sam Griffiths will be a wonderful Event Ambassador for the Mitsubishi Motors Australian International 3 Day Event, having visited the Adelaide event previously. “Sam has a wealth of knowledge on the sport of eventing and this is apparent in the successes that he has had on the international stage. The Masterclasses that he will present will no doubt be extremely interesting and informative, and I’m sure he will be able to provide great insight from a rider’s perspective in to the Mitsubishi CCI4* Cross Country Course on his course walks,” said Mrs Rolton.

Sam Griffiths said that he was excited to be attending the 2017 Mitsubishi Motors Australian International 3 Day Event as the Event Ambassador this year.

“While I have never ridden at Adelaide, it is always one of my favorite 3-day events to attend. There is no other 3-day event like this in the world and it’s great to see Australia and New Zealand’s best riders competing at this event. One day I hope that I can also compete and win the Adelaide event!”

Also included in the 2017 program highlights, world renowned ‘Free Rider’ Alycia Burton will be returning to Adelaide with her horse, Gold Rush, to wow the crowds with another amazing performance. Last year, Alycia had the crowds on the edge of their seats jumping 1.6m jumps with no bridle or saddle. Alycia and Gold Rush will be performing on Friday night (17 Nov), after the FEI World Cup Jumping Warm up class. This is a performance not to be missed.

The Mitsubishi Motors Australian International Three Day Event is one of only six CCI four star events to be held across the world, with more than 25,000 spectators attending the event. The 2017 Mitsubishi Motors Aus3DE will attract Australia’s best horse and rider combinations across three phases – Dressage, Cross Country and Show Jumping, with the event to be a qualifying competition for the Australian team for the 2018 World Equestrian Games to be held in North Carolina, USA.

The 2017 Mitsubishi Motors Australian Three Day Event will be held in Adelaide’s inner-city East Parklands from Thursday 16 to Sunday 19 November, 2017.
