The line up for the CCI4*-S at the Barefoot Retreats Burnham Market International is always good but this year, it is VERY good and quite mysterious.

The riders are itching to get full-on competition underway and are bringing their top rides to Burnham Market in Norfolk for the first International event in England this year. And, while there is no CCI5* at Badminton, the starters at Burnham Market will shed light on who will actually be heading to Kentucky for the CCI5* that starts just a few days later.

The World Number One Oliver Townend has three horses entered for Burnham Market, a venue where he has won an amazing 13 times, and he will be aiming to add to that. The five entered in the CCI4*-S class are Ballaghmor Class, Cooley Master Class, Dreamliner, Tregilder and MHS King Joules and, if you think “Hang on a minute, aren’t three of those entered for Kentucky?” you would be correct.

The Kentucky horses fly out of England today, but it probably won’t be until we see the final draw and Oliver heads out of the Start Box at Burnham that we will get a definite idea of which horses we’ll see at Kentucky. Which makes it even more exciting!

Tregilder is one of the three entered for Burnham and Kentucky

To add to the excitement, the current entry list of 143 runners also has the last CCI5* winners at Badminton and Burghley, Piggy March with Vanir Kamira and Pippa Funnell with MGH Grafton Street, plus World Champions Ros Canter and Allstar B, Pau CCI5* winner Laura Collett and London 52, Izzy taylor with Monkeying Around, Kitty King with Vendredi Biats and Tom McEwen with Figaro Van Het Broekxhof, just to name a few of the top Brits in contention.

Australia, Japan, Italy and New Zealand are among the countries entered with Chris Burton bringing Jefferson 18 and Leopards Action, who both had good warm-up runs at Portman last week, and we’re expecting Leopard’s Action to be up there after the dressage, if not throughout the whole competition

AS well as the CCI4*-S there is a CCI3*-S and National classes from BE100 to Advanced being run from Friday to Sunday. The CCI4* competitors have dressage on Friday and Saturday with both cross country and show jumping on Sunday

Visitors are welcome at the event but numbers will be limited and, in order to be compliant with guidelines, all tickets must be purchased in advance.

We'll have our daily reports coming up, a full wrap-up next week and don't forget to stay tuned to our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for video snippets and more during the weekend ...

   See you at Burnham Market!
