New Zealand team for Aachen CHIO

On good form. Sir Mark Todd and Kiltubrid Rhapsody finished sixth at Badminton in May

Clarke Johnstone may have just recently arrived back in the Northern Hemisphere with Balmoral Sensation but he is headed to one of the best shows in Europe as part of the New Zealand team contesting the CICO3* Nations Cup at the World Equestrian festival at Aachen

Aachen first-timer Clarke joins the UK based combinations Sir Mark Todd on Kiltubrid Rhapsody, Blyth Tait on Havanna and Tim Price on Cekatinka as part of the Kiwi Nations Cup team, with Dan Jocelyn aboard Grovine de Reve riding as an individual.

Teams from Australia, France, New Zealand, Great Britain, Germany, Sweden and the United States will be competing in the Nations Cup competition. Sweden currently top the 2018 Nations Cup leader board with 205 points after the first three legs at Vairano (Italy), Houghton Hall (GB) and Strzegom (POL) but the German team in third place (160 points) are always hot favourites on their home turf so both Sweden and second placed France (200 points) will have to be on top form

The only team to have beaten Germany at Aachen in recent times is Australia, taking gold in 2016 and silver in 2017. Australia will be having its first Nations Cup start at Aachen this year – find out more about the 2018 Aachen Australian team here
