Musketeer Events announce 2018 charity

Musketeer Event Management (MEM), organiser of Barefoot Retreats Burnham Market and Saracen Horse Feeds Houghton International Horse Trials, has named East Anglia Children's Hospices (EACH) as its official charity for 2018.

EACH supports families and cares for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Essex. Whilst more than half of its care and support is delivered in the family home and community, EACH also has three hospices across the region where care ranges from specialist play, to short breaks and day care and, of course, end of life care.

This year the charity needs to raise around £6 million to fulfil its commitments, which equates to £16,000 every single day. Specifically relevant to Norfolk and North Suffolk is EACH's Nook appeal, proceeds from which will fund the building of a new purpose-built hospice at Framlingham Earl, in the heart of Norfolk. The Nook will enable EACH to offer a larger, more appropriate environment to meet the increased demands being placed upon it and the changing needs of the children and young people it cares for.

With a target of £10 million, the appeal total currently stands at over £7.3 million and work has started on the new building.

Tal Williams, EACH Nook Appeal Community Fundraiser, said: “We are delighted to be this year's charity for Burnham Market and Houghton International Horse Trials. With such a significant fund raising target to meet, this is a wonderful opportunity to raise vital funds and awareness for the work we do and, hopefully, inspire people we meet to help us along the way.”

MEM's Event Director Alec Lochore commented: “This is a fantastic charity which has already made a huge difference to countless families. I greatly admire the courage of the families, children and all those involved with EACH, the support offered by EACH being a game changer for all members of a family coming to terms with a child or sibling with a life limiting condition.

“I am delighted to welcome EACH to both Burnham Market and Houghton Internationals, and hope that these two events will help raise public awareness – and donations – for the cause.”

Robert Miller, Senior Agent Cholmondeley Estates, added: “We are delighted that Houghton International will be supporting East Anglia Children's Hospices and The Nook appeal. The funds will help build a new hospice to provide valuable support for children and their families who are dealing with life-threatening conditions, both in Norfolk and beyond.”

Barefoot Retreats Burnham Market International takes place from 29th - 31st March at Sussex Farm, while Saracen Horse Feeds Houghton International (incorporating FEI Nations Cup) runs from 24th - 27th May in Houghton Hall's stunning deer park. Both events are part of Tri-Star Eventing
