Andrew Hoy and The Blue Frontier
It was a day of shock exits on the demanding cross country track at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials but all three Australian riders completed the course and were happy with their performances, even though they are a little off the pace
The man who first won Burghley in 1979, Australia’s Andrew Hoy didn’t have the best result, picking up 40 jumping penalties and 29.6 time penalties for 41st place but he still had a positive perspective about his ride on The Blue Frontier

Paul Tapner and Bonza King of Rouges
Another Australian who was pleased to have completed was Paul Tapner who now has a full time job with the Event Rider Masters as well as riding his horses as an ‘amateur’. Paul and Bonza King of Rouges finished in 19th place on 75.8 with no jumping penalties but adding 29.6 time penalties
Warren Lamperd and Silvia
The big surprise for Warren Lamperd was to discover that he was ahead of Michael Jung when he returned back from his ride! As it turned out, Warren had not incurred 50 jumping penalties but he had picked up 51.60, putting him into 34th place.
His horse Sylvia was one of a few to bank the grass topped table at the Dairy Mound which Warren seems to have quite enjoyed although, like many others, Sylvia jumped in very big to Discovery Valley
