The Haras National at l‘Isle de Briand in Le Lion d’Angers (FRA) has been the venue for the FEI WBFSH World Breeding Eventing Championships for Young Horses since the inception of the Championships and the event will continue to take place there until 2021
Known as Le Mondial Du Lion, or often simply Le Lion, these Championships for 6-Year-Old and Seven-Year-Old horses are an important part of the eventing calendar. Held at the historic French National Stud each October, the event attracts thousands of spectators as well as competitors from all around the world representing their country
As well as being a competition between horses and countries, the event provides a snapshot of the development within breeding societies. The Championships are also a competition between the breeders and the breed societies, providing a strong incentive for the development of and progress within breeding societies and breeders with The Irish Sport Horse Studbook winning the overall title for the second consecutive year in 2018
Like many of their predecessors, the 2018 winners have gone on to further success with Kitty King’s Cristal Fontaine (6YO winner) having four top three placings at 3* level, including two wins, and Ingrid Klimke’s Asha P (7YO winner) finishing second in the 4* at Luhmuhlen.
Although the FEI Board recently decided to re-open the bid process for a multi-year allocation for the FEI WBFSH World Breeding Championships for Young Horses in the disciplines of Jumping, Dressage and Eventing for the years 2021, 2022 and 2023, the Eventing Championships will remain at Le Lion d’Angers until at least 2021.
This year the event takes place from 17th – 20th October
