A dream weekend for Tom McEwen

Tom McEwen not only won the Intermediate Section O on Dreamaway II but also finished second on Dream Big

The South of England International (2) may have been besieged by bad weather but it was chock-a-block full of big names and returning champions from the World Equestrian Games at Tryon

British team gold medallists Gemma Tattersall and Tom McEwen both won multiple classes with Gemma taking the Novice Sections G and H on Chillis Prince and Facari MG on Saturday and the CIC2* riding Billy Shania on Sunday and Tom McEwen winning the Intermediate Sections N and O on Braveheart and Dreamaway II on Sunday. Tom had a dream of a weekend, not only winning these two Intermediate sections but also finishing second on Dream Big and The Magician

After some pretty miserable weather conditions, the sun finally came out on Sunday afternoon leaving Tom and Tum (which is how you pronounce Tim Price’s first name in New Zealand) chasing each other around the cross country hopping on and off their last horses. Tom had five rides in the last hour and it's always busy with multiple rides but 73 withdrawals from cross country on Sunday added to the merry-go-round rides for Tom and Tim at the end of the day.  Despite two days of rain the ground held up pretty well, even on Sunday when there were 188 cross country starters

It hasn’t been the easiest of years for Jenny and Tim Nolan who run both the South of England events and Eridge Horse Trials with the South of England (1) being cancelled due to snow and wet weather conditions in March, Eridge being run in the middle of a long, hot and dry summer and the South of England International (2) bearing the brunt of two British storm systems passing by

We’ll have a full report from South of International (2) soon but congratulations to our XC Video class winners with some great viewing coming up soon ….
