Yogi Breisner to work with Swedish Equestrian Federation

Yogi Breisner, who led the British eventing team to four successive Olympic team medals as well as five European team titles, has taken on a new role with the Swedish Equestrian Federation

Yogi left his role as the British Eventing Performance Manager in 2016 after a 17 year tenure and will return to his Swedish roots as an advisor to the Swedish equestrian Olympic national coaches and coordinators for jumping, dressage and eventing

“Goran will be a great asset for us with all the experience he has accumulated over the years” says Andrea Barth, manager sports / competition who first contacted Breisner about the opportunity

“It gives us the opportunity and space to lift the level of the Olympic equestrian branches further against Tokyo in 2020”

Breisner met the Swedish coaches at the Competition Conference in Stockholm last weekend and is looking forward to working with the new role but ‘in the background’

“I look forward to working in Sweden with these coaches. The goal is I'm going to be a sounding board and be able to share my experiences. But the best part is that I can work in the background”

“I have followed the Swedish equestrian sport all the time during my time as a coach in the UK. So I know how it looks. Sweden has won a medal in every Olympics since Athens in 2004”

Breisner competed as a junior in both dressage and jumping and was part of the Swedish national team in eventing, including the European Championship team 1983. In the mid-70s he moved to Ireland, and later to England where he has been based ever since.

His role with the British Eventing team earned him an MBE and an honorary award for outstanding services to equestrianism.
