Our full wrap up will be coming after the event at Cholmondeley finishes on Tuesday but there can be no doubt that Monday’s big classes will feature heavily!

The first of the Open Intermediate section took place on Sunday and was won by Emilie Chandler riding Gortfadda Diamond, and the Open Intermediate sections on Monday were won by the two biggest names in the sport

World Number One Oliver Townend won the Open Intermediate Section Q on board Arklow Puissance, backing up the nine-year-old gelding’s win in the Open Intermediate at Gatcombe Park (2) late last year while the World Champion Ros Canter took the Open Intermediate Section R on Pencos Crown Jewel. You don’t get any better than that in a day’s competition but both of the classes really came down to the wire; Piggy March riding Marchwood finished just 0.9 penalties behind Oliver while China’s Alex Hua Tian was even closer to Ros. Both finished on a score of 25.6 but Ros was closer to optimum time on cross country, giving her the win

      Emily King and Valme Biats

The Intermediate sections saw Wills Oakden continue his winning ways with Macgregors Cooley being the star of the stable this time. They took the Intermediate Section O, adding to Wills’ wins at Aske and Warwick Hall in recent weeks while Emily King, another rider who did well at Aske, took the Intermediate Section P riding Valme Biats

The two Novice sections were won by Hannah Berryman riding Westwood II and Holly Smith on Mexikann

Holly also took second place in the only BE100 class on Monday which was won by Izzy Taylor riding SBH Big Wall
