“Not a bad day at all really. Finished up 10th in the BE100 which, considering it had both the Prices, Ollie Townend, Polly Stockton, Jeanette Brakewell (amongst others) competing in my class, I was quite pleased” British Eventing Ambassador Elise Kidd told us

Saturday saw many grassroots riders in the BE90 and BE100 classes that took place at Cholmondeley Castle, which is pretty par for the course at this popular and very scenic Cheshire event, but from Sunday onwards, the event is now Cholmondeley on steroids

What should have been a two-day fixture has become four days and the event is jam packed with big names. Amateur rider, mum of two and full-time serving member of the Royal Air Force Elise and her seven-year-old grey roan KWPN gelding Impact IV finished 10th in Section H which was won by World Number 2, New Zealand’s Tim Price riding CHIO 20

China’s Alex Hua Tian won the BE100 Section I on the pocket rocket Secret Britannia (by Lucinda Fredericks’ stallion Britannia’s Mail, who won the Novice at Barbury last month with young Ellie Fredericks in the saddle), Aimee Penny won the Section J on board PSH Encore on a good score of 20.8 and the relative newcomer to the UK from New Zealand, Samantha Lissington had a cracking run in the BE100 Open Section K, winning the class on the homebred mare Ricker Ridge Ricochet, taking fourth place riding Johnnie Walker Van De Suydersee and sixth place on Senor Crocodillo

These classes all took place on Sunday, along with the Novice Section N, won by Amy O’Connor, wife of Ireland’s Austen O’Connor and a lovely rider in her own right, riding Cooley Admiral while the reigning Junior European Champion Flynn Healy and one of our favourites, the dual gold medal winning pony Moonlight Dancer, won the Pony Open Novice Section M

Congratulations to all winners and placegetters but especially our class winners who receive a cross country video, so some excellent footage coming up from these two days of competition, not to mention the big classes on Monday and Tuesday.
