What a treat we’re in for at the JCL Insurance Kelsall Hill International in Cheshire this weekend

While the lower-level classes on Friday were cancelled (BE90 will now only run on Sunday and BE100 on Saturday and Sunday), there will be some action taking place on Friday with CCI-S 3* Dressage in the indoor Arena starting from 8.30am

Thanks to the swanky new complex at Kelsall Hill Equestrian Centre, you’ll be able to grab a seat and watch the CCI3* dressage on Friday and CCI2* on Saturday in comfort indoors whilst enjoying a coffee from the Urchin’s Kitchen café (Car parking is £10 per car for spectators on Saturday & Sunday so start planning your day out!)

CCI3-S* cross country is on Saturday morning and, along with the Advanced Intermediate, Open Intermediate and Intermediate sections on the same day, there will be plenty of top class action out on Kelsall Hill’s cross country course with great vantage points for spectators (and of course, we’ll be bringing you lots of footage after the event)

Eliza Stoddart has three horses entered in the CCI3* with Idonna W the first horse of the class, the 2019 British 5YO Champion Codebreaker in the middle and Isalottie the penultimate and Steve Heal, who has been on a roll lately, brings another British Champion in the 2021 7YO winner, Quidam De Luxe

Ella Woodhead, who was back in the winner’s circle at Cirencester Park (1) on Quarza, after recovering from a rare autoimmune condition, is riding Fernhill Playboy and Balou de Bauvais in the 3* and Quarza in the Intermediate

Emily King and Imposant just missed out on a win in the Open Intermediate at Burnham Market International last week and will be looking to go one better in the 3* here, Georgie Spence will be giving her Badminton entry, Halltown Harley a last outing and, while Ben Hobday’s Badminton horse Shadow Man II will be running in the Advanced Intermediate, the on-form Shadow Seahorse will be competing in the 3*

The Advanced and Open Intermediate classes are jam packed with other stars including Oliver Townend at his ‘local event’, Australia’s Andrew Hoy has returned from his travels in Italy and will be riding Bloom Des Hauts Crets and superstar Vassily De Lassos, China’s Alex Hua Tian has his first runs of the year on Jilsonne van Barreelhof and PSH Convivial and Brazil’s Carlos Parro, a regular at Kelsall Hill, is riding Goliath

There also other Badminton entries such as Kylie Roddy riding SRS Kan Do, Austin O’Connor riding Colorado Blue and Ros Canter on Allstar B and Lordships Graffalo

Ros first brought Allstar B to Kelsall Hill in 2018 as part of her prep for Badminton where she finished in third place of the CCI5* and went on to win the World Championship later that year. This is what she told us then about preparing for the big events with Allstar B
