David Doel and Galileo Nieuwmoed, who finished last season strongly with third place in the CCI5* at Maryland at Fair Hill, and Storm Straker riding Fever Pitch both claimed an Open Intermediate Section at Oasby (1) in 2024 and are back again this year.

The new format of the 2025 Agria Oasby Horse Trials, with just two days running on Thursday 6th and Friday 7th March at Oasby (1), will also see the 2024 Badminton winner, Caroline Powell’s Greenacres Special Cavalier having his first start of the season and another New Zealander, Clarke Johnstone, freshly returned from showjumping on the Andalusia Sunshine Tour in Spain, has four rides including his Paris 2024 horse Menlo Park in the OI on Thursday.

Another Olympian, Japan’s Paris 2024 bronze medallist Ryuzo Kitajima will also be in the OI on Thursday with both Be My Daisy and Feroza Nieuwmoed while the reigning European Champions Ros Canter and Lordships Graffalo will be having their first run of the year in Friday’s OI.

While the lower level classes get their own event at Oasby (2) in April, there are some BE100 classes at Oasby (1) this week. Australia’s Sammi Birch had a 2* win with Parkfield Pumpkin at Osberton late last season and they are easing into the season with a BE100 Open run on Friday, along with stablemates Gracie De La Rose, Lazio PFB and Rosa’s Party.

The Friday Open Intermediate also includes a small number of U21 riders with Cameron Swales riding Millies Law, who finished second in the OIu21 here last year, Zennor Harvey riding Graf Crusoe and Annabel Finston riding Braveheart B getting ahead of the pack with a chance of points for the EHOA Under 21 Plum Rowland Trophy.

BEDE Events also have their own leagues running throughout the season with riders able to pick up points for the Agria 100 League and Eco Voltz League plus rosettes for Highest Placed Amateurs, Highest Placed RoR and Highest Placed EHOA Members.

The next BEDE Event will be the first International on the British calendar - the Eventing Spring Carnival at Thoresby Park - and the back-to-back winners of that event, Emily King riding Valmy Biats are also having their first run of the season this week at Oasby.

We’ll be filming all horses and riders on cross country and bringing you daily snippets plus the full wrap up after the event on our website. And of course keep an eye on our social pages for updates throughout!
