British Olympic and world gold medallist Tom McEwen enjoyed a superb day at the Agria Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials and is now dominating the leaderboard in both competitions. Tom holds first and second places in the Agria CCI4*-L after cross country and leads the GFS Saddles 8 & 9 Year-old CCI4*-S class after the show jumping phase.
Leaders after the first day of CCI4*-S dressage on Thursday, Tom and Brookfield Danny De Muze jumped a double clear showjumping round to regain the top spot but it is tight at the top with just 0.2 penalties separating Tom from second placed Bubby Upton riding Sancerre De Tiji and Izzy Taylor in third on Barrington Boy.
Kitty King riding Kilcoltrim Cooley is in fourth place and Australia’s Sammi Birch has moved up one spot to fifth on Rosa’s Party, just 1.1 penalties off Tom McEwen’s score.
The overnight leaders, Astier Nicolas and Hitchqote du Coudray dropped down to 28th place with three rails down.
The GFS Saddles 8 & 9-Year-Old CCI4*-S class concludes on Sunday with cross country action starting at 9.30am while the Agria CCI4*-L champion will be crowned after their final horse inspection followed by showjumping.
