Tamborine: Ace and I winning the CNC*

Over the last couple of months the wet weather weighed heavily on our plans with the wet ground causing a run of abscesses popping out (thankfully) on a number of our horses. Even though a few weeks of consistent poulticing Ace came out fine, we unfortunately didn’t have enough time before Sydney and Melbourne to get him fit. So I’ll have to put those two aside for next year.

As it turned out it may have been a good thing as my schedule was totally filled with exams and in the afternoon training the horses. To balance some of the pressure at school I competed at a number of events and even tried some hacking. These events include; Frazer Coast Horse Trials, Tamborine ODE, Brookfield Show, Burpengary ODE and SEQ Regionals for interschool. At Fraser Coast Rotheswaite Venice Beach (aka Doreen), did her second Pre Novice placing 3rd overall but I didn’t have the best run on Heart of Hearts in the 1*.

Tamborine was next where I had a great time, only soured by being thrown off by a young one. Painful - should have worn my air vest. Ace and I redeemed ourselves winning the dressage and finishing first overall in the CNC* and Doreen finished second in the Pre Novice.

       Brookfield Show

At the Brookfield Show I tried some hacking, a flashback to my pony days. Surprisingly Doreen and I took out Supreme District Champion Hack and then we popped over to the 6 bar placing second (couldn’t have been happier with my baby). Having enjoyed a little hacking I was off to Burpengary ODE where (Doreen) placed first in the Junior Pre Novice on 49 penalties, however baby Eli in the Prelim just did not like that water jump (lots to work on there).

Burpengary ODE: Doreen and I winning the Junior Pre Nov

As always I love competing for my school, Stuartholme, this time at regionals. I had heaps of fun with friends and it was almost relaxing competing solely on Doreen, who won the 105cm combined training. To Dad’s delight we had one non – horsey weekend (which felt a bit strange) with friends and family!

Figtree Pocket ODE: Doreen and I winning the Junior Pre Novice

On this last stunning sunny weekend I count myself so lucky to have finished on a high at Figtree Pocket ODE, with Doreen proving herself again by winning the Junior Pre Novice. There was a moment in the cross country where the feeling of riding such a magnificent animal defined the meaning of fun for me and validated why anyone who does this sport gets hooked.

I can’t wait for the holidays and all the upcoming events, Interschool states at Maryborough, Tamborine, and then down to ffffreezing Quirindi for their big 3 Day Event. I am a true Queenslander and find it hard to function when the temperatures creep below 10 degrees. Lastly my holidays end with me heading up to Bellara Park for squad training with Bret Parbery (so excited). And thanks to the big equestrian Kathy Ward, I’m off to the Girlfriend modelling competition which she scouted me for when we went down to Sydney in 2014 to look at Rotheswaite Venice Beach at James Arkin’s in Moss Vale. Looking forward to fiddling around with makeup on myself rather than my horse!

Other than a few abscesses I am so lucky that our horses have stayed healthy and allowed me to compete consistently. My continued thanks to Promectin Plus Mini Allwormer a unique innovation in parasite control for horses. It is the smallest, lightest and easiest-to-use horse wormer available as it offers a hassle free way for you to safely and effectively protect the health of your horses and ponies! It is also safe for pregnant mares and breeding stallions!

Also make sure you have a look at Equessential’s ice and magnetic boots to ensure your horse stays safe and sound throughout this season! They have an entire range of products designed to treat injury, to avoid injury or to just use as an everyday application to improve your horse’s performance.
