Millstreet International Horse Trials has been awarded the inaugural FEI Eventing World Championship Under 25, which will take place on July 22-26, 2026.
This brand-new classification is for riders aged under 25 years and will be run at CCI4*-S level. Millstreet advised that it had submitted a bid in August 2025 which was ratified by the FEI during the 2025 General Assembly in Hong Kong on November 7th.
It will be the first eventing championship on Irish soil since the Duggan family ran the FEI Young Rider and Junior European Eventing Championship in 2017 at their beautiful Green Glens Arena and parkland cross-country course in Co Cork.
"It's great to be hosting a championship in Ireland and for Ireland, which will help showcase the sport and Irish horses to the world," said Millstreet's director Thomas Duggan.
"It has long been felt that it is a big step up from Young Riders to a senior championship and this new concept, which is open to the world, should be a valuable experience and provide an exciting competition for talented under-25 riders.
"We are very grateful to our stakeholders, to Horse Sport Ireland for their support, as well as that of our invaluable loyal sponsors."
Millstreet will also run competitions at its usual earlier date, May 28-31, 2026, when there will be four CCI-S competitions at 1*, 2*, 3* and 4* level. The July event will include CCI4*-S, CCI3*-S and CCI-L at 2*, 3* and 4*.
