Sadly, this will be the last time that an International class will take place at Chilham Castle (2) Horse Trials for a little while due to the this year's re-allocation of events

For this last hurrah however, the grandeur of Chilham Castle will once again serve as a backdrop for the CCI2* dressage which takes place next to the lake below the Castle. At least the local CIC competitors at Chilham can commiserate and reminisce together at a complimentary lunch to be kindly provided for them by the organisers on the Saturday.

Despite this, the Chilham Castle Horse Trials organisers continue their long-term investment in land management and the development and maintenance of the cross country course for National level competition and, as we saw at Chilham (1) in April, the course has reversed in direction as well as new fences added. All courses provide competitors with inviting and fair challenges at each level and the undulating parkland with a fair pull up to the top (providing great views) means you need a fit horse, especially at the higher levels

As well as attracting the last International entries, young horses are a focus of this event with a qualifier for the 4 Year Old and 5 Year Old Young Horse Championship at Osberton later in the year and the BE80(T) will provide amateur eventers with a chance to ride at Burghley in 2020 with a Regional Final here

This event is also a qualifier for the South East Eventers League and a new addition this year will be a car rally on Sunday 28th July showcasing some of the finest examples of vintage and classic vehicles on the terrace lawns of the Castle

Last year the (then named) CCI1* was won by Nat Dixon and Vic on a rather wet and miserable day - let's hope that the weather is kinder this year!
