New Zealand’s Ginny Thomasen riding Katchafire has moved back into the top spot of the Rathbones CCI3*-L after a chilly day of cross country at the Aspen Cooling Osberton (2) International Horse Trials with a double clear round leaving the pair on their dressage score of 25.8.

Ginny and Katchafire led after the first day of dressage and when Friday’s leader, Kitty King and DSH Mr D, picked up 20 jumping penalties on Saturday’s course, Thursday’s top three found themselves re-instated with Bubby Upton riding Auckland 7 and Sarah Bullimore riding Corouet in second (26.3) and third (26.8) places.

Australia’s Sammi Birch riding Parkfield Artie Blou also jumped double clear around the course to remain on her dressage score of 37.7 to move up to 30th place and Bill Levett riding Call To Arms just added a few time penalties to also move up slightly to 54th place.

Sammi also maintained her lead in the Arena Saddles CCI2*-L with Parkfield Pumpkin staying on his dressage score of 25.6 ahead of Oliver Townend riding Thunder Bird Z (26.0) and Emily King riding HG Woods (26.7).

‘Newer’ eventing countries Namibia, Japan and India are also represented in the top 15 of this class with Francois Heyns (NAM) riding Netherwood Link in fifth place, Japan’s Yuga Segawa riding Vegas De L’Elfe JRA in 13th and India’s Shashank Kanumuri riding Wellfields Casino Royale in 15th place.

Over on the other side of the world, Shashank Kanumuri’s friend Shashank Singh Kataria is leading the CCI2*-L at the Queensland International 3 Day Event, making it potentially a very good week of eventing for India.

It is also an international affair in the Project Pony CCI2*-Pony with Sweden’s Freya Von Moltke riding Grantstown True Loves maintaining the lead on her dressage score of 25.8 ahead of Florence Drewitt riding Battlestown Delight and Ireland’s Isabelle Walsh riding Ardnehue Red Robin.

While the long format classes headed out on cross country on a chilly Saturday, competitors in the Agria Amateur BE105 and Agria CCI1* completed showjumping and will go cross country on Sunday.

Margo Sly riding Gorsehill Alamo kept her lead in the Agria Amateur BE105 thanks to a clear round while two rails down and some time proved costly for Olivia Ross riding Madame Revolution TCE, Friday’s leader of the Agria CCI1. Eliza Bell riding Diarado’s Hit W moved into the top spot on their dressage score of 29.1 with Kate Rocher-Smith riding Dassett Forever Autumn and Dani Stewart-Richardson riding Stonepark Metro in equal second (30.3)
