Ireland’s Susie Berry went home from Riseholm College Lincoln Horse Trials on Saturday with two wins under her belt. The eight-year-old gelding Wild Atlantic Way ended his season last year with a win in the CCI2*-S at Bicton Horse Trials and has started where he left off, winning the Open Novice at Lincoln as a great prep for the Eventing Spring Carnival at Thoresby CCI2* at the end of this month.

Susie’s second win came in the Novice Section H on board Lackroe Quality who, like Wild Atlantic Way, did the deal by finishing on his dressage score. No doubt Susie will be hoping the trend continues when she returns for the final day with the big boys, Ringwood LB and John The Bull in Sunday’s Open Intermediate.

Katie Barber riding Dolmen Dottie Dee took the Novice Section I but it was just 0.2 seconds on cross country that separated her from second placed Justine Ward riding Billy Brody, who both finished on 31.5 with Katie taking the win from being a time bit closer to optimum time on the Joe Weller designed cross country course.

Young guns Ella Howard and Oscar Fitzgerald shared the top spoils in the Open Novice U18, taking the top five spots between them but Ella coming out on top riding the past Piggy March ride, Marchwood and Oscar taking second on board Vittoria Panizzon’s Tokyo 2020 horse Super Cilious. What a great way to learn the ropes on these lovely horses.

Another class for the younger riders was the Pony Trial, won by Phoebe Woods on Noble Superman, finishing on their dressage score of 29.5, with the Pony combinations gearing up for a big year, starting with the British Pony Championships at Belsay International (2) in May.

Three sections of BE100 saw Grace Jenkins riding Slaneyside Cooley win the BE100 Open while Emily Eggar riding Up With Ardeere took the BE100 Section M and Clare Abbott riding Cortynan won the Section N with some very close contests in the placings.

We’ll be back with a quick update from Sunday plus full wrap up and lots of photos. And of course  An Eventful Life is filming all competitors on cross country all three days so keep an eye on our socials for snippets during the event!
