Saturday at Lincolnshire Horse Trials may have been mainly focussed on the lower levels of competition but one past 5* competitor put his (stripey) mark on the leaderboard.

The 15.2h gelding Tiger Mail (Jaguar Mail x Little Tiger), ridden by Melanie Darling, finished on his dressage score of 26.3 to win the BE100 Open Section K at their first event of the season. Now 15 years old, Tiger Mail became well-known when he was competed by Phoebe Buckley at Burghley in 2022, following in the footsteps of his dam, another diminutive 5* horse, Little Tiger also ridden by Phoebe.

Melanie took over the reins in 2023, and the pair have competed at BE100 and BE90 with great success since then, including their latest win at Lincolnshire.

Three other big sections of BE100 were contested, including the BE100 Under 18, claimed by Sophia Elliott riding Coirban Miss Sarco, also finishing on their dressage score. The four sections of BE90 were headed by Lucinda Atkinson riding PRF Sing Hallelujah, winners of the BE90 Open Section P.

The top guns return on the final day of competition at Lincoln Showgrounds with some very well-known competitors set to tackle the Sunday Open Intermediate. Check back for a quick update and our full report next week!
