If there were any lingering doubts as to why Bramham has the reputation for being one of the toughest CCI4*s in the world, then today well and truly laid those to rest. From 62 starters in the CCI4*L just six jumped clear inside the time, 26 jumped clear with time, seven combinations were eliminated and 13 pairs retired on course.

Monkeying Around justified his rider Izzy Taylor and owner Mark Sartori’s faith in him with a fast clear round on cross country day, taking the win on the final day

As a former winner here Izzy has experience with the track and the terrain and so the difficulty wasn’t a complete surprise

“It rode as it walked,” she nodded, “you had to get a bit down and dirty and get on with it. For me, some people are very technical and think about distances and obviously they’re important but at the end of the day cross country riding is about reacting to what happens, and that is Bramham!

CCI4*-L Under 25 Winners - Héloïse Le Guern on Canakine Du Sudre Z

“He was ready to do this,” said France's Heloise Le Guern of her horse Canakine Du Sudre Z on finishing cross country on Saturday “He was very fresh and very ‘tonique’, he jumped very well all the time and his knees were always on the top”

It was a debut at the 4* L for them both so Heloise admitted she was a bit ‘stressed’ but ultimately found the time quite easy and was very happy to come home clear with plenty of horse and is excited for the rest of their season together.
